In Succession, Kendall Roy's farewell to Logan echoed a powerful message for anyone ready to grab life by the horns:
βHe built, and he acted. And there are many people out there who will always tell you no, and there are a thousand reasons not to, to not act. But he was never one of those. [...] it was only that human thing, the will to be, and to be seen, and to do. [...] if we can't match his vim, then god knows the future will be sluggish and grey.β
How do you actually get what you want? How do you build momentum for reaching your goals?
Well, letβs get technical: The equation for momentum (p) is (m)*(v)βmomentum equals mass times velocity. Thereβs a directional aspect to momentum as well.
To cultivate momentum in life, start by setting your goal (defining a direction). Give it weight in your life (determining its 'mass'), and consistently make choices and act in ways that align with that priority (increase 'velocity'). Stick to this formula, and just like in physics, you'll start building momentum, barreling towards your goal before you even know it.
Itβs not enough to dream. We must do. Act. There will always be reasons not to - the journey is an uphill battle.
Persist. Keep showing up. Take that next step, no matter how small it may seem.
